New York State
The state of New York and its local governments have a responsibility for the prevention and early detection of mental retardation and developmental disabilities and for the comprehensively planned provision of services including care, treatment, habilitation and rehabilitation of their citizens with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
The New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD)
is the state agency with the primary responsibility in this area. Its web site has many links to program information and service providers. Click here to access the OMRDD website.
Federal Government
The
Federal Administration for Children and Families (ACF)
has information about a large number of programs for children, including those with developmental disabilities and mental retardation.
