Evelyn Douglin Center (EDC) frequently seeks dedicated individuals to provide top-notch customized services to our participants. All candidates must complete a rigorous and extensive training program, and must achieve appropriate certification.
 
Available Positions:
 
Evelyn Douglin Center’s Children Services Special Education Teachers
Evelyn Douglin Center operates a State Education Department approved Special Education Itinerant Teaching service (SEIT) program. SEIT services are available to children ages of three to five-years old that are identified by their local community school district’s committee on preschool special education (CPSE) as having a learning disability.

Note: A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science is required.

Graduate students with special interest in Teaching and or Education are preferred.
Evelyn Douglin Center provides assistance in obtaining temporary State of New York Education Certification (SED).
 
Residential Habilitation and Direct Care.
Direct care employees provide comprehensive services for people who are mentally and/or developmentally disabled. It is the direct care worker who helps the program participant meet their goals and learn to live as independently as possible.

The direct care staff person may provide assistance to individuals who need help with daily living skills, getting ready for the day, preparing meals, eating, and or going to appointments.
Direct care staffs’ purpose and mission are to assist in building life skills, job coaching, activity development and training in a social interaction.

Evelyn Douglin Center prefers candidates to have experience working with the developmentally and or physically impaired.

A high school diploma, or equivalent (GED) is required, as is a valid New York State Driver’s License.
Candidates with certifications in Approved Medication Administration Personnel (AMAP), Strategies for Crisis Intervention-Prevention (SCIP), First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) are preferred, although, Evelyn Douglin Center provides training and certification in the aforementioned areas.
 
 
Day Habilitation Specialist
Manages and supervises daytime activities that provide a variety of community based experiences to assist program participants with gaining prevocational, socialization and communication skills.

Programs vary--based upon the level of the program participants’ needs and their personal interests and preferences.
 
Case Management (Service Coordinators/Coordination)
Case Managers, now referred to as "Service Coordinators/Coordination," are the program participants' advocates that implement and monitor individualized service plans created to empower their lives.

Candidates must have a Bachelors of Art or Bachelors of Science in Sociology, Psychology or Social Work, and at least a year of experience working with developmentally and or physically impaired individuals.

Consideration is also given to candidates with an Associates degree if they have at least one year of experience working with developmentally and or physically impaired individuals.

Office Assistants/Support must have professional administrative skills and demeanor.
